About the Hope Center
The Hope Center is a faith-based, non-profit, charitable organization (501c3). Our Mission is to help individuals and families in our community move toward wholeness in Christ physically, emotionally and spiritually. We do this by showing compassionate love, developing relationships, praying for and connecting each person to Christ and to a body of believers while providing food, clothing, household items, emergency kits and access to additional resources in our community. Why? We believe in a loving God who desires all people to be saved and know the truth (1 Timothy 2:3-4), in the inherent value of each individual who is created in God’s image, and in following God’s great commandments; to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:36-40).
May the God of HOPE fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with HOPE by the power of the Holy Spirit. – Romans 15:13
The Hope Center is part of the network of helping services in Kern County, cooperating and coordinating efforts with other non-profits, government agencies and private groups. The Hope Center has the confidence of the surrounding community and relies on its referrals. Beardsley and Standard School Districts, many Kern County agencies and the Food Bank are just a few who interact and share resources with the Hope Center.
The Hope Center was founded in 1997 by Dennis Mitchell in a small room at Olive Knolls Church. In December 1999, The Hope Center moved out of Olive Knolls Church and opened in a building on North Chester in Oildale. In January 2001, the ministry moved to our current location on Manor Street, behind the sanctuary of Life House Church.
The Hope Center is governed by a Board of Directors, funded by donations, and is staffed mostly by volunteers and by those doing community services for different local agencies. Services are provided to individuals and families from the community as well as people from other states and countries, fire or burglary victims and survivors of natural disasters. Recipients may be walk-ins, referrals from churches, schools, social service agencies or other help organizations. We operate by donations of money, food, clothes, household items, etc., given by individuals, churches, schools, businesses and various agencies. We appreciate our volunteers and those who donate. Together we are able to help thousands each year in our community.
